Ski Season off to a Strong Start at The Homestead
Resort's Family Learn to Ski Package Part of 5th Annual Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month

January 4, 2013, Hot Springs, Virginia – The Homestead, recently named one of the Top 50 Ski Hotels in the United States and Canada by Conde Nast Traveler, saw a significant increase in their December ski visits compared to 2011. The Hot Springs, Virginia resort, nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, attracted a large crowd of holiday visitors anxious for a white Christmas. Lower than average temperatures allowed the resort's snowmakers to increase production which provided additional coverage on the slopes for the skiers and snowboarders.

Matt Fussell, director of recreation for The Homestead, said the resort sold 50% more lift tickets in December 2012 compared to 2011. "We started making snow on December 11 and opened for the season on December 22. Our lift ticket sales have increased and our lessons have doubled compared to last year."

In conjunction with the 5th annual Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, The Homestead is offering a Family Learn to Ski package starting at only $305 per night, less than $77 per person for a family of four. The package includes accommodations, daily lift tickets, equipment rental and group lessons for a family of four.

Known for its family-friendly atmosphere, The Homestead offers skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, tubing and snowmobiling for registered and non-registered guests throughout the winter months. Night skiing begins Saturday, January 5 and continues every Saturday throughout the season from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The Homestead made Southern skiing a reality in 1959, opening the region’s original downhill ski area. New this winter, The Homestead will offer the Southeast's only Rossignol Experience Center, featuring Rossignol's award-winning Experience skis with Auto Turn rocker and the latest ski innovations.  With more than 45 acres and nine well-maintained trails, the slopes are perfect for beginners and experienced skiers. The Homestead offers 100 percent snowmaking when natural snow isn’t available, rental equipment, “Little Penguins” day programs for children and private and group ski and snowboarding instruction at the Sepp Kober Snow Sports School. Also new this season is Allegheny Springs Winter Wonderland with both ice skating and swimming at one convenient location. Full-day and half-day ice skating passes as well as skate rentals are available.
